Javier Duero is an independent curator and journalist based in Madrid, Spain. He is specialized in video, new media, installation, electronic art and sound art. He is Graduate in photography by EFTI, Master in audiovisual communication by IORTV (Official Institute of Radio and Television, Complutense University of Madrid). He has made investigation and research in new media at the Foundation Daniel Langloise (Montreal) and in video at Videographe Center (Quebéc).
Duero has been involved in curating and organizing exhibitions and art events since 1998 as an artistic director and curator. He has worked with galleries, museums, art centers and institutions both in his native Madrid as well as Barcelone, Valencia, San Sebastián, Santiago de Compostela and other spanish cities. Duero is curator of La Casa Encendida Art Center (Madrid) and artistic director of the Observatori Festival (Valencia).
Some of his ongoing projects include: Broadcasting Art, a collective project of sound art for MUSAC (Museum of Castilla-León), Panorama, a project for Instituto Cervantes to be shown internationally in Beijing, Milano, Lyon and Casablanca and Kick The Trash, a performance, new media and music event to be held at CBA Art Center.
Some of his past projects are: Video -20º a collective canadian video exhibition for Caixaforum Art Center (Barcelone), Art in the Street, a collective video screening for Photoespaña Festival (Madrid), guest curator of TENTACIONES, the cutting-edge art section of ESTAMPA International Art Fair (Madrid), Curator of MAP Multi Art Program at the CICC Art Center (San Sebastian), New Media curator for the Standart Art Show (Madrid), Guest curator for CGAC Museum of Art (Santiago de Compostela), and associate curator of the Madrid Edition Art Fair.
Duero is adviser of AVAM (Association of Visual Artists of Madrid,) in CRAC committee (Center of Resources and Artistic Production). He collaborates in cultural programs of contemporary art for Radio 3 RNE (National Radio of Spain) both as journalist as well as adviser.
