Title: Lucie's Fur : The Prelude
Production year: 2003
Media: single channel DVD, edition of 4
Statement:
The Prelude (as extracted from Espacios Mestizos - Hybrid Spaces catalogue
; Osorio 2003; Page 44)
"The artist's visit to the 'Hybrid Spaces' involved both a performance and
video piece which featured different metaphors about the origin of humanity.
One of these is a Christian myth of the expulsion of Lucifer from Heaven, after
which, according to some, his fall to earth produced the Big Bang that is the
origin of the universe, resulting in the creation and evolution of humankind...
This Christian approach is liked to humans' direct descent from the Khoi San
peoples, where the cradle of humanity is situated... In her performance, playing
the role of Eve, the artist riffs on the widespread idea of woman's contribution
to the destruction of humanity. Rose filmed a video at Osorio Park, using as
her settings some of the spot's most special, resonant areas, establishing a
simile between elements from the classic film 'The Wizard of Oz' and questions
regarding the origins of God and man."
